The City of Round Rock continues to assess damage and assist affected residents following severe weather early Monday evening.

Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan signed a declaration of disaster Tuesday morning, asking the public to avoid areas with damage as public safety and transportation crews continue to clear debris.

Though assessments are still ongoing, officials believe that hundreds of structures have received some level of damage, and damage appears to be isolated to a handful of neighborhoods. Residents who have experienced damage are encouraged to report it at damage.tdem.texas.gov and select “March Severe Weather.”

The Building Officials Association of Texas (BOAT) has sent trained and certified personnel to perform damage assessment to homes in neighborhoods impacted by Monday’s tornado in Round Rock. These assessments will take place Wednesday and Thursday. These post-disaster building damage assessments are intended to minimize the potential for additional bodily injury by advising residents and first responders of any potential hazards. At this time, City officials believe roughly 350-400 homes were damaged in the storm.

Residents with damage to their home are asked to separate construction debris from tree limbs and branches, and stack them along the curb or as close to the curb as possible so equipment can reach them. Do not place construction debris in your garbage container, and do not place any debris or tree limbs in the roadway. The City is working to arrange specialized pickup for these items.

The City of Round Rock has also placed large dumpsters within affected neighborhoods for residents to dispose of storm-related debris.

Residents who lost their regular trash containers in the storm will be provided replacement carts after initial cleanup efforts, and are asked to use these dumpsters for residential waste in the meantime.

The City’s Transportation crews continue to work to ensure that roadways are passable; however, they will only remove debris in City right-of-way. Limbs that are blocking roadways and presenting a danger to motorists can be reported by calling 512-688-0398. Any fallen trees on private property are the responsibility of the property owner. The City’s Parks and Recreation Department is currently assisting affected residents with trees that are pose a significant safety threat.

Regular garbage and recycling pickup remains on its normal schedule for all City of Round Rock customers at this time.

Due to damage sustained in the storm, the City of Round Rock’s Clay Madsen Recreation Center is closed until further notice.​

Multiple intersections remain without power to traffic signals. If you encounter an intersection without power, treat it as a four-way stop, and then proceed with caution.

The public shelter locations at Dell Diamond Heritage Center and Redbud Elementary School have been deactivated, and officials are now working directly with affected families to provide shelter. A total of four families utilized the public shelter locations on Monday evening.

No fatalities or major injuries have been reported.
