1869 saw the publication of Sarah Hopkins Bradford’s biography Scenes in the life of Harriet Tubman, a biography of the famous American abolitionist who escaped slavery and subsequently organized the Underground Railroad, a network of safe houses that saw at least 100,000 enslaved people escape slavery to Canada. Also from Douglass’ letter: “Excepting John Brown—of sacred memory—I know of no one who has willingly encountered more perils and hardships to serve our enslaved people than you have.”

Today’s game got off to a bit of a slower start, with some high-value Triple Stumpers and incorrect responses keeping the scores down. However, Sadie had the best round and led after 30 clues.
Megan 5 correct 1 incorrect Sadie 3 correct 0 incorrect Molly 3 correct 1 incorrect
Sadie 11 correct 2 incorrect Megan 8 correct 3 incorrect Molly 5 correct 3 incorrect
(Categories: Sci-Fi Characters; His Widow Lived On; Marine Biology; The “It” Department; The Quotable Movie; Such A Peasant Life)
The very close game between Megan and Sadie continued, as Molly found both Daily Doubles in the round, yet got them both incorrect to keep her score down. Meanwhile, Sadie held a slim lead going into the Final—$9,800 for her, $9,200 for Megan, and $3,300 for Molly.
Sadie 17 correct 4 incorrect Megan 14 correct 3 incorrect Molly 14 correct 6 incorrect Total number of unplayed clues this season: 79 (0 today).
The Final was nearly a triple-get for the first time in nearly two months. Unfortunately, though, Sadie was unable to finish writing “Tubman” in time, and incomplete means incorrect in Final Jeopardy! In a heartbreaking-but-fair ruling, Sadie dropped to third, and Megan Wachspress is now a 4-day champion!

heh, My eyes are still watering from all the rhetoric spilled on this game 🙂 It did seem like an easy FJ… I’m always grateful for those!
I agree with your comment under “Andy’s Thoughts”.
And thanks also for the interesting tidbit about the light pens.
There was a discussion on one of the podcast episodes regarding this case. It seemed like there was a lot of discussion after the FJ involving judges and producers. We saw a version on TV that was probably recorded separately or edited.
every episode is edited to some degree. Some of it is minimal (cutting out pauses and the like), but fairly often there are times when the game is stopped for the judges to confer on a ruling or research a possible alternate answer that is also correct; all of which are edited out of the televised show. (shows are taped months before they air, so there is plenty of time for editing)
I still don’t think it took Sadie a long time to think of the answer. I imagine it just seemed TOO easy and she took too long trying to possibly second guess herself before beginning to write it down.
“the judges would not have seen the final N being written” I think the opposite: the judges (or producers in the booth) would have seen her (on video) continuing to write after time had expired, thus proving that the full response had not been written in time
