In case the all-new Volvo XC90 bowled you over for the obvious reasons, but came off a bit lacking on the performance front, here’s some warm news. Volvo India will launch the fastest and most powerful XC90 they’ve made till date soon – the T8 specification. The icing on the cake – it’ll come with the Crème de la Crème, palace-on-wheels Excellence trim. As for the price, it is expected to be around INR 1.2 Crores (ex-showroom).
The T8 specification of the XC90 maybe the strongest, but it’s actually got a hybrid drive-train. It employs a 2-litre petrol engine that is both supercharged and turbocharged along, in conjunction with an electric motor to produce 402 bhp and 640 Nm of torque. Called the Drive-E Powertrain, it comes with five driving modes as well. While the AWD Mode offers constant all-wheel drive on demand, and the Dynamic Mode tears off some of the electronic leashes, the Individual Mode lets you combine modes to suit your own driving style.

Now to the top-of-the-line XC90 Excellence trim. Styling cues that differentiate the Excellence trim from the other trims are B and C pillars treated with chrome. Inside, you can revel in the capacious four-seat layout, with all the seats trimmed in perforated Nappa leather.The rear individual seats come with massage and ventilation functions, and the rear passengers also get access to the infotainment system through a retractable touch screen. Treat yourself like a king, what with the folding tables, a refrigerator, heated and cooled cup holders, crystal glasses, extra sound deadening and glide on thePirelli Noise Cancelling System tyres.
The new XC90 SUV is based on the new Scalable Product Architecture Platform ( SPA ) from Volvo. The SPA has been undergoing development for the last four years, and apart from recently launched the S90/V90 models, it will also underpin a number of upcoming models from Volvo. According to the company, the SPA is very flexible and dynamic, as its dimensions can be changed to produce differing vehicle types like sedans, SUVs or Crossovers, thus reducing developing costs in the future.
